The signers include Arturo Toscanini, Arthur Rubinstein, Fritz Kreisler, Rudolf Serkin, Erica Morini, Ruggiero Ricci, Harold Bauer, Ignaz Paderewski, Serge Koussevitzky, Kirsten Flagstad, Sigrid Onegin, Alfred Piccaver, Frank Case, Ezio Pinza, Alexander Brailowsky, Lauritz Melchior, Marian Anderson, Jan Kubelik, Jamila Novotna, Dorothy Maynor, John McCormack, Sophie Tucker and others. The case made by R. Blackinton & Co. and measuring 3 7/8" x 3" with a weight of 3.19 Oz or 99.3 grams. World War II-Era Leather Briefcase

World War II-era leather briefcase belonging to the important composer, marked with a well-worn and largely torn partial travel tag adhered to the leather exterior, signed "Stravinsky" (only partially remaining) on the identification line and completed in his hand.  The briefcase, manufactured by German leather company "JDEHA," has a hard leather construction, brass corner footings still intact, and brass snap closures.  Adhered to the exterior is a worn and faded First Class luggage label for a transatlantic voyage from New York City to Bremerhaven aboard the Norddeutscher Lloyd Bremen, dated April 9 [1963].  Signs of aging and distressing to the leather exterior, else fine.  18.25 x 13.5 x 3.25 inches (46.3 x 34.3 x 8.25 cm.). Uncommon AMQS from the songwriter and composer, who has written one of the most famous melodies in his canon, the hook to "Diamonds are a Girl's Best Friend."  Composed for the 1949 musical Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, the song was made immortal by Marilyn Monroe's performance in the 1953 film adaptation.  Styne has written the title above and signed below on a trimmed piece of staff paper.  In fine condition.  8.5 x 5.5 inches (21.6 x 14 cm.). Original gelatin silver print photograph of the conductor at the piano, boldly inscribed in red ink to the blank area below the image, "To Mr. Edward E. Thalmann / with best wishes and / ever cordially / Arturo Toscannini / March 8 1944."  Set in an unusual wood and silver velvet frame, unexamined out of frame, appears to be in very fine condition apart from the easel-back support on frame verso which needs repair.  8 x 10 inches (20.3 x 25.4 cm.) framed to 10.25 x 13 inches overall.

Beautifully hand-painted decorative album sheet featuring 17 signatures of musicians and notables, including at the lower center the important Polish violinist and composer Henri Wieniawski and, to the right of him, Francois-Auguste Gevaert, Belgian musicologist and composer who served as the director of the Brussels Conservatoire and who in 1874 had invited Wieniawski to take over the job of Professor of the Violin Class from Henri Vieuxtemps who was afflicted by paralysis of the arms (and who subsequently moved to Paris). Other signatories are mostly unidentified but include also Etienne Arago (politician and writer, co-founder of the newspaper Le Figaro).
