French Cello-Shaped Chocolate Mould, ca 1800s

Small rustic chocolate or biscuit mould in the shape of a cello, ca. 1800s, from France.  The surrounding incised text is indecipherable, however likely relates to the manufacturer of the chocolate.  Glazed earthenware, in fine condition.  19 x 9 centimeters.  A lovely decorative table item or paperweight!

Signed Underwood & Underwood of Chicago photograph of the great Russian bass in costume as Mefistofele from Arrigo Boito's opera of the same name.  Chaliapin has inscribed to Charles Drumheller, tenor and longtime rehearsal pianist at the Metropolitan and Chicago Lyric Opera: "Charles Drumheller Souvenir de Feodor Chaliapin / 1922 / Chicago" in black ink to the lower margin.  Type to verso reads "FEODOR CHALIAPIN / as 'Mefistofele' / Chicago Civic Opera."  Large area of light-brown spill staining to upper right and center of image, overpainting to lower portion of Chaliapin's outfit, else in good condition and quite striking and presentable despite said defects!  8 x 10 inches (20.3 x 25.4 cm.). Original program for a concert tour in Germany ca. early 1960's, boldly signed in blue ink on the cover. The program, in German, contains multiple pictures of Armstrong and his All Stars, a biographical article about the great trumpeter, and advertising, including a Pepsi-Cola advertisement on the back cover reading "Satchmo, Jazz und Pepsi - für Leute von Heute."  A number of creases, some wear along spine, else fine. 9.5 x 8.5 inches (24.5 x 22 cm.). "The Swankiest, Swingiest, Singiest Sepian Revue" - 1930's Cotton Club Table Mallet and Postcard Photograph

An original wooden mallet from the legendary jazz club, printed on the handle with the words "Cotton Club / Bway at 48th Street / Circle 7-1000 / JAMMED SESSIONS NIGHTLY / The Swankiest, Swingiest, Singiest Sepian Revue".  Together with a modern reprint postcard photograph of the illuminated exterior of the club, which shows the marquee advertising appearances by Bill Robinson and Cab Calloway.  It was the custom at the Cotton Club to show approval of the performers by rapping on the tables with this type of small wooden hammer.  Some light wear; overall fine.  Mallet measures 6.75 inches in length; postcard 4 x 5.5 inches.
