Charming and unusual early 20th-century painting by an unknown artist, depicting a young sailor and his 'sweetheart' sending love notes to one another by way of messenger doves.  Oil paint on velvet cloth.  In fine condition.  Sight 35.75 x 16.5 inches (90.8 x 42 cm.); nicely framed to an overall size of 37.5 x 18 inches (95.25 x 45.7 cm.).

Original felt tip sketch on a 100 Belgian Franc note, accomplished by the American graffiti artist and social activist known for his instantly recognizable visual language of dancing figures and his work bridging the gap between high and low art.  Haring's lively sketch to the right of the printed image of Belgian architect Hendrik Beyaert, shows a windsurfing figure gliding through waves and is signed to the lower left, "K. Valentina in Polka-Dot Shawl, 1940 - Original Fashion Photograph

Original silver gelatin photograph by the great fashion photographer depicting the Ukrainian émigrée fashion designer and theatrical costume designer known as "Valentina" in a striking hat and polka-dot oversized sequin shawl.  Surface creasing, light spotting along margins, mounting remnants to verso which obscure the identifying information leaving just enough visible to identify the image as by Hoyningen-Huene, else in fine condition.  8 x 10 inches (20.3 x 25.4 cm.). Another image of Valentina by Hoyningen-Huene was published in Harper's Bazaar in July 1940. We have not located a published example of the present portrait, although it might have been published in Vogue or Harper's Bazaar. Interesting portfolio entitled "Kouros," limited to 1,500 copies, this being copy no. 909 of 1000 numbered. 8 bifolia; 9 printed poems, each accompanied by a full-page illustration on the opposing page; 10 plates in total (including one double page plate) printed in blues, black and silver in a pochoir style; decorated leaf with title and justification; loose in printed blue wrappers, housed in original printed white cardboard case. 380 x 280mm (15 x 11"). 0.7kg. This copy signed and inscribed by the artist and author on a preliminary page in black ink to the model Kris Lovimaskaia: "Pour Kris, avec amour, Yves, 23 Octobre 1986, Paris." Contents in fine condition; the original box which has preserved the book well exhibits extensive wear and staining. Heavy standing bronze plaque with hinged hairpin easel support, stamped to the lower right by an unidentified maker of the Wiener Werkstätte, or the Vienna Workshop, "a productive cooperative of artisans in Vienna, Austria established in 1903 by the graphic designer and painter Koloman Moser, the architect Josef Hoffmann and the patron Fritz Waerndorfer. The Werkstätte brought together architects, artists and designers working in ceramics, fashion, silver, furniture and the graphic arts."  In fine condition.  2 3/8 x 2.5 inches
