Scarce AMQS from the German composer and influential conductor in the circle of Lortzing, Mendelssohn and Schumann. AMQS titled "Andantino" from "Gute Nacht, du mein herziges Kind", op. 137 (3 Lieder für eine Stimme mit Begleitung des Pianoforte) no. 2, published 1856, penned on an off-white 5 x 3 inch sheet. Abt pens eight bars of music and lyrics, signing twice and adding the location and date, Brunswick, January 28, 1869. Inset within a gold-bordered 7 x 5 inch card. Plattner a Rotterdam" laid over the original imprint on title, with ownership stamp "P.J. Le Coultre Enkhuizen" to the title page and some other parts, and a bookplate "P. Upright folio.  8 pp.  Collection of three poems by Ben Ridder set to music by the conductor and composer, who has inscribed "To my dear friend Ambrose / affectionately / Leo" to the front cover.  The present volume includes "Love Is a Song," "The Elms," and "Laughter."  Blocks of toning to front and back covers, else in fine condition.

Kopp was born in Ukraine, the son of a city cantor.  During his career, he spent many years as a conductor with the Chicago Opera.
