Signed postcard from the great Hungarian composer who has amusingly signed "B2" and neatly penned "Pozsony, 1902 dec. 31" and "Boldog Új Évet!" ["Happy New Year!"] to recto corners surrounding a raised relief-printed image of a pig in a horseshoe eating a four-leaf clover, meant to evoke luck. "Merry Christmas—From Pacific Sands to You" - Promotional Photograph

Universal Pictures promotional photograph of the American actress, best known for her roles in westerns such as Passage West and Flaming Feather.  The 1947 image shows her standing on a California beach, a festive wreath in her hand.  The studio blurb affixed to verso reads, "Merry Christmas—From Pacific Sands to You / King Neptune did his Christmas shopping early this year - and what he ordered was a pretty girl, redhead preferred, to convey his season's greetings a la bathing suit style from a southern California beach.  Arleen Whelan filled the bill for His Highness, and herewith brings you greetings.  Arleen's new movie, coming your way shortly after the first of the year, is the Nunnally Johnson production, The Senator Was Indiscreet, starring William Powell.  It's a Universal-International release."  "Arleen Whelan / new Universal star" is penned to verso in Spanish by an unknown hand.  Light edge wear, toning, two large pin holes to upper left corner, else in fine condition.  8 x 10 inches (20.3 x 25.4 cm.).

Signed Christmas Card

Christmas greeting card, signed and inscribed by Pablo Casals, with his wife Martita adding her name, both in ink. Sold together with the original envelope in which this was sent in 1958 to Gregory Marshak, close friend of the great cellist who, the previous year, had been instrumental in organizing the first "Concours Pablo Casals." 4.75 x 8 inches fully opened. Very fine.

The recipient of the autograph, Alice Carr, worked at the Steinway & Sons showroom in New York City.

16th Century Illuminated Antiphonal Manuscript on Vellum

A nicely illuminated page from a 16th century European gradual, a book of chants for the mass. The text reading "Nos autem gloriari oportet in cruce Domini nostri Jesu Christi: In quo est Salus" and being the Introit of Evening Mass on Maundy Thursday and the Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross in the Roman Catholic Church. Five staves of 4 lines.  3 x 3 inch watercolor initial "N" extending into margins. 19.5 x 14 inches (49.5 x 35.5 cm.) on vellum, in glass-fronted frame. Moderate wear and toning, overall fine.

Original program from a performance by The Little Orchestra Society at the Brooklyn Academy of Music on Sunday, March 9, 1969.  The Mexican composer and conductor has signed in felt tip above the program listing, which includes his Toccata for Percussion and the New York premiere of Elatio.  The afternoon also included performances of works by Lully, Beethoven, Ravel, and Shostakovich.  Spots of toning, else in fine condition.  6 x 9 inches (15.2 x 22.9 cm.).
