Budapest: Rozsnyai Károly. .
First edition of the Hungarian Folksongs for voice and piano, a collection to which the two great Hungarian composers each contributed ten songs, signed by Bartók on the title page. [PN] B. K. 4to. This early collection of songs with simple piano accompaniments was a precursor to the later, comprehensive studies of Hungarian folksongs by the two important composers, ethnomusicologists and collaborators, who spent years traveling the Hungarian countryside collecting traditional melodies. One of the most famous songs in the collection, "Elindultam szép hazámból" ("I left my beautiful fatherland"), later came to be applied to Bartók himself as he assumed the role of an exile. The ten songs in this collection by Bartok are classified as BB 42 (Sz 33 / W 13).
