Typed Letter Signed

TLS from the Romanian-American religious historian to Professor Irma Antonetto of the Associazione Culturale Italiana, responding to an invitation to speak.  April 25, 1974;  1 pp. on A4 History of Religions stationary.  In part, "Thank you very much for your letter of April 10th and your kind invitation...Unfortunately, for the next year or two, my time is fully committed to the completion of several projects I am currently engaged in...I do find your invitation most interesting, though, and hope that at some time in the future I will be able to accept."  It was not to be; the ACI has no record of Eliade ever giving a talk.  Expected mailing folds, two holes punched in left margin, else fine.

Mircea Eliade was a philosopher, fiction writer, and religious historian, responsible for paradigms that persist in the field of religious studies to this day.

Irma Antonetto (1920-1993), was founder and director of the Associazione Culturale Italiana [Association of Italian Culture] for 46 years, during which time she brought some 400 philosophers, writers, scientists, artists, and Nobel winners to lecture in Italy. She was recipient of the 1964 Cavaliere al merito della Repubblica italiana. (19144)
