"Rap Master Ronnie" - Signed Program
Playbill program from a 1985 production of the musical Rap Master Ronnie at the Next Move Theatre in Boston, signed to cover by Gary Trudeau. The Pulitzer Prize-winning Doonesbury cartoonist wrote the book and lyrics for the show, his second collaboration with composer Elizabeth Swados. 40 pp. In fine condition, 6.5 x 9 inches (16.5 x 23 cm). Together with several inserts including two advertisements, a Reagan-themed Bingo card that was likely used by the audience during the show, and a press release.Trudeau's first foray into musical theatre was Doonesbury: A Musical Comedy, which ran on Broadway in 1984. After the show closed, Trudeau and Swados decided to expand upon satirical material they had previously written concerning the Reagan administration. The resulting project, Rap Master Ronnie, took the form of a stage show, a music video, and a made for TV movie starring Carol Kane, Jon Cryer, and the Smothers Brothers.
