"Me and Juliet" - Signed Program

Playbill program for the 1953 Broadway production of Rodgers & Hammerstein's Me and Juliet at the Majestic Theatre, signed to title page by cast members Hayes and McCracken.  40 pp.  In fine condition, 7.5 x 9.5 inches (19 x 24.1 cm).

Me and Juliet was the sixth musical by Rodgers and Hammerstein, opening on Broadway on May 28, 1953.  While the show was a critical failure, advance sales were so strong that it ran for most of the year, ultimately turning a small profit. To quote Frederick W. Nolan, author of The Sound of Their Music: The Story of Rodgers and Hammerstein, "Despite a $500,000 advance sale, despite a ten-month run (which, for anyone except Rodgers and Hammerstein, would have represented a major success), and despite an eventual profit in excess of $100,000, Me and Juliet has to be classed as a failure."
