Signed Photograph in "Die Zauberflöte"
Stunning signed photograph of the Russian-born lyric soprano in costume as the Queen of the Night for a Teatro Colón production of Die Zauberflöte. Streich has inscribed to the lower portion of the image "To Paul / cordially / Rita Streich." White signature of the photograph lower right, stamp to verso reads "'Alfa Foto' / Teatro Colon / Buenos Aires." The production, under the baton of Sir Thomas Beecham, was recorded in 1958. Light wear to edges, signature low contrast, else fine. 7 x 9.25 inches (17.8 x 23.5 cm.).From the collection of Paul McMahon, a critic, photographer and artist who worked for more than 13 years touring with Marlene Dietrich as the icon’s stage manager, announcer, dresser, secretary and escort, and later spent 25 years as an arts and entertainment reviewer and photographer with Gay Community News, Esplanade, Tommy’s Connection, The Mirror, Bay Windows and other publications.
