Stravinsky, Igor. (1882–1971) [Monteux, Pierre. (1875–1964)]

"Deeply grieved by the loss of my oldest friend" - Condolence Telegram Upon Monteux's Death

Extraordinary original telegram addressed to the widow of Pierre Monteaux, sent the day of his death (Jul 1 1964, 7:25 PM).  Stravinsky writes, in full, "Deeply grieved by the loss of my oldest friend in music and everybody's loss of this greatest conductor the passing of this man is also the passing of an era."  8 x 5.75 inches (20.3 x 14.5 cm.).  Fine.  A powerful statement attesting to one of the most important musical partnerships of the twentieth century.

The great conductor Pierre Monteux was known for conducting the premiere of the Rite of Spring and for his tenures with the Boston Symphony Orchestra, the Amsterdam Concertgebouw Orchestra, the Orchestre Symphonique de Paris, and the San Francisco Symphony. (19708)
