Père Noël, 1957 - Signed Lithograph

Amusing lithograph on wove paper of the Spanish artist's Father Christmas, or Santa Claus.  Hand signed by Picasso and numbered 85 from the edition of 200 along the lower edge.  Horizontal and vertical scuffs, some affecting the image; mild spotting, most notably to the verso; somewhat sun-faded.  Sheet 15.1 x 21.5 inches (38.5 x 54.6 cm.), matted and framed under acrylic to an overall size of 24 x 29.5 inches (61 x 75 cm.).

During the 1950s-1960s Picasso did a number of these clown-like images.  His "Père Noël" or 'Father Christmas,' is a comical figure, showing the sense of whimsy that Picasso brought to his ceramics and personal drawings for friends. (19755)
