Original Nemzeti S.F.P.S. of Budapest bust portrait photograph of the important Hungarian composer, conductor, and pianist. Dohnányi has inscribed to the musicologist Johannes Franze and his wife "in herzlichen Freundschaft / Ernst de Dohnanyi / Buenos Aires / 2.Juli.1948" to the photographer's mount.  Some silvering and scratches to image, and a diagonal crease through the upper left corner, aa few small nicks and creases to mount, else fine.  Photograph 6.5 x 9 inches (16.5 x 22.7 cm.); overall 9.5 x 13.5 inches (24.1 x 34.3 cm.).
The important Hungarian composer and pianist Béla Bartók once wrote of his compatriot and fellow composer: “You can sum up Hungarian Music in one word: Dohnányi!”  Yet by 1948, Dohnányi had been hounded out of Hungary.  After brief periods in Austria and England, he found temporary respite in Argentina, where he performed in Buenos Aires and briefly chaired the piano department at the University of Tucuman.
