The couple brought traditional dance forms from throughout the world — including Japan and India — to dance audiences and students in the United States for more than 30 years. They taught annually and performed regularly at the Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival for many years. Matteo also wrote a highly praised text, “The Language of Spanish Dance: A Dictionary and Reference Manual,” as well as “Woods That Dance,” a book about castanets for which he devised a notation system.
