Monroe, Marilyn. (1926–1962)

"Ladies of the Chorus" - 1949 Promotional Photograph

Original vintage National Screen Service Corp. promotional photograph for the 1949 Columbia Pictures film Ladies of the Chorus, directed by Phil Karlson and starring Marilyn Monroe, Adele Jergens, and Rand Brooks.  Small surface crease to upper margin, else in fine condition.  10 x 8 inches (25.4 x 20.3 cm.).

Ladies of the Chorus marked Monroe's first major film role and disappeared quickly from theaters.  Billed second below Adele Jergen upon original release (as seen here), the film was reissued with Monroe given top billing once she had became a star a few years later.

Studio photographs were issued through the National Screen Service with movie posters and other promotional materials, as well as with press kits for the media. They were often issued in groups of different scenes and theaters would often display any number of them in their lobbies.
