Chaminade, Cecile. (1857–1944)

Signed Recital Program and Photograph

An uncommon 1907 program from an entire London Hyde Park Hotel concert devoted to the works of the popular French composer and pianist. Chaminade herself played several solo works and joined with singers Alice Mandeville and Leon Rennay for the other works. Boldly signed and dated in pencil and sold together with a vintage postcard photograph. 17 x 23 cm. Irregularly trimmed along edges, verso with mounting traces along upper edge, central crease a bit foxed and partially separated at sides.

Chaminade toured extensively during this period and was a frequent guest of Queen Victoria. Later, she was the first female composer to be admitted to the Legion d'Honneur in 1913. (8026)
