Enormous Signed Original Portrait

Original bust portrait drawing, signed in brown ink by the innovative clarinetist and saxophonist regarded as one of the greatest wind players in the history of jazz. Accomplished in black and blue ink on heavy paper, signed lower right by the artist, Andre Remeliouty. Measuring an impressive 50 x 60 cm [20 x 24 inches], this is almost certainly the largest signed image of the musician in existence. A number of small tears and mostly minor areas of staining around the edges, overall in very good condition. Will be shipped rolled.

"Waiting for Godot" - Original 1956 Program

Original playbill from the Broadway debut of Beckett's absurdist play at the John Golden Theatre, beginning on April 19, 1956. Starring Bert Lahr (also the original Cowardly Lion), the play had opened in Florida in January 1956 and bombed, before its more successful Broadway production that spring. Overall age wear and one vertical crease, but otherwise in very good condition. 20 pp. 6.5 x 9 inches (16.5 x 23 cm).

Portrait of the British conductor in his later years in profile seated at his desk studying a score.  8.75 x 7.25 inches (22 x 18.2 cm).  Mounted to rigid backing, in fine condition.

Sir Thomas Beecham founded both the London Philharmonic Orchestra (1932) and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra (1949).  He was never happy with being a salaried employee of any orchestra and preferred to gather his own ensembles instead.

D.S., Thomas Beecham, three pages, folio, London, 30th January 1933. The partially printed document, in French, is issued by the Covent Garden Opera Syndicate, Royal Opera, Covent Garden, London, for the year 1933, and is a contract engaging Beecham's services as 'Chef d'Orchestre et Directeur Artistique' from 1st May - 10th June 1933 for the sum of 'un mille francs (£1000) pour la saison.' Boldly signed at the conclusion. Some light age wear, else fine. Together with a vintage postcard photograph.

A remarkable original presentation photograph in original photographer's folder/mount, stamped "Swaine, 146 New Bond St.W. and at Southsea," photograph measuring an impressive 16.5 x 6.3 inches (42 x 16 cm.). The photograph shows the entire orchestra -all men - assembled in a large dining hall, in their most elegant attire, seated at 6 long tables. Sir Thomas may be see standing along the far right wall, with his eyes closed. We do not know on which occasion this image was taken, but it may include additional musical luminaries, as there seem to be more than a single orchestra's worth of attendees.

Sammelband (in four partbooks) containing six string quartets from the German composer, including a first edition printing of his Op. 127 and a likely first edition of his Op. 74. Upright folio; engraved thoughout, contemporary half vellum with red, structured boards and gilt lettering, "L. v. Beethoven's Quartetten No. 7–12.", followed by name of partbook in Italian. 12.5 x 10 inches (31.7 x 25.5 cm). Signature, "Diettrich," to verso of front endpaper of all partbooks except Violino Primo. Numbering, opus numbers and some dedications added in black ink to headers of first pages of quartets; metronome marks and other annotations throughout in red or purple ink; rehearsal letters and other annotations throughout in blue crayon; occasional corrections in lead pencil.
