Trifold Spanish language program from an August 23, 1990 performance with the Schlewig-Holstein Festival Orchestra under Seymon Bychkov at the Plaza Porticada in Santander, Spain.  The Russian cellist has boldly signed just above his printed biography.  The performance, part of the Festival Internacional de Santander, included Dvořák's Cello Concerto, Op. 104 and Shostakovich's Symphony No. 5, Op. 47.  In fine condition.  Closes to 9.5 x 7 inches (24.1 x 17.8 cm.).

Uncommon large format halftone photograph of the Spanish violinist and composer, who has inscribed in Spanish to his friend, the journalist Pier Giulio Breschi, "in testimony of true sympathy and gratidude" ("al amigo Pier Giulio Breschi en prueba di verdadura simptaia y agradicimiento") and signed "Pablo de Sarasate / Genova 6–2–08—."  Scattered light foxing to margins, small tear to right edge, overall fine condition.  11 x 14 inches (28 x 36 cm.). This is the largest signed photograph of Sarasate that Schubertiade has ever offered!

"Barcarola" (Piano Quintet No. 2) - Autograph Musical Quotation Signed

Rare AMQS from the Italian pianist, composer, and student of Liszt, of the Barcarola from his Piano Quintet No. 2, Op. 5.  Sgambati has penned the first two measures of the composition in black ink and signed his name, adding "Roma Dec. 1903" to the front of a French illustrated postcard appropriately depicting a scene of boats on the water ("A L'Aurore") addressed on the verso by the recipient "Mlle Bella Toledo / 3, rue Scribe, Paris."  Without postal cancelation, light horizontal crease, else in fine condition.  3.5 x 5.5 inches (9 x 14 cm).  Read More...

Signed Louis Mélançon of New York photograph of the Italian tenor, one of the greatest of the 20th century, in costume as Calaf for a Metropolitan Opera production of Puccini's Turandot.  Corelli has inscribed "To Paul / per ricordo / Franco Corelli" in black ink to the right side of the image.  Press note to verso reads "Franco Corelli in the role of Calaf in which he will be heard on Tuesday evening, April 20th, when the Metropolitan Opera presents Puccini's spectacular opera, Turandot in the Memorial Auditorium."  Photographer's stamp and Metropolitan Opera Press Department label to verso.  Overall in fine condition.  8 x 10 inches (20.3 x 25.4 cm.). Two autograph panegyrics to the legendary German soprano, written and presented to her on the occasion of a performance in Dresden in March 1852. One page each, written on the rectos of sheets with embossed decorative frames. In German, each in black ink. First item: by Austrian baritone Johann Michael Wächter, who appeared onstage at the concert alongside Sontag. Poem of eight lines followed by prose dedication: "Complete, majestic woman, the favor of fate that allowed me once more, after our life paths had been separate for such a long time, to perform with you, sublime artist, and to be reminded of the most beautiful past, by accepting these most deeply felt words." Signed "Wächter" (initials "J.M." added in pencil in an unknown hand), dated "Dresden, March 8, 1852." 8 x 9.6 inches (24 x 20 cm), unevenly cut. Second item: by Franz  [illegible] Count Boyen[?]. Aphorism: "There are just a few whom art marks with perfection on their brow. Beholding them, the heart indulges in past and present!" Signed in full. Collection of 20 photographs of the American actress, including several original backstage candids by Paul McMahon, five original candids taken during a performance of the 1963 revival of Tennessee Williams' The Milk Train Doesn't Stop Here Anymore, her final theatrical role, and two promotional photographs from Fanatic, her final film appearance.  The original period promotional photographs include three stills from the 1944 Alfred Hitchcock film Lifeboat, three from the 1965 Hammer film Fanatic (identified in the captions by its American title, Die! Die! My Darling!), and two stills from the 1953 musical comedy Main Street to Broadway.  The collection also includes a publicity photograph from New York City's Stork Club, showing Bankhead at dinner with several friends.  Overall in very fine condition.  Seven photographs measure 5 x 3.5 inches (12.7 x 8.9 cm.), one 3.5 x 3.5 inches (8.9 x 8.9 cm.), twelve 10 x 8 inches (25.4 x 20.3 cm.).
